Frederic Malle Portrait of a Lady

Not having worn Portrait of a Lady for a good few months, wearing it today brought home the truth that this is one rose fragrance by Frederic Malle that I just don't quite get, or appreciate. I know it has its fans, but I find it a bit harsh, hinting at a synthetic clumsiness that depresses me.

I know, I know. That seems grouchy, and probably unfair, but give me the superior, earlier Une Rose by Edouard Flechier any day.

  1. Portrait of a Lady is one of my most favorite perfumes. Whenever I wear it I feel very dressed up and festive. It develops very pleasant on my skin and I hope to enjoy it for many years (since I have a FB). But since it's a very loud and busy (notes-wise) perfume I can see how it might work differently for some (many?) people.

  2. Undina, clearly it works a lot better for you than it does for me. I know of quite a few others who rate POAL very highly too. That is probably why I qualified my opinion slightly at the end.
