Scents of the day - Sonoma Scent Studio

Today was an incredibly rainy day in my south eastern corner of England. I arrived at work sodden, miserable, just a touch cranky and cold. In keeping with the weather, I needed some comfort, now that autumn well and truly is here, so wore Sonoma Scent Studio's Tabac Aurea and Winter Woods.

I know I've written a lot about Sonoma Scent Studio before, and I assure you I do not get commission or free perfumes from them, but I can't help but say what good value for money perfumes come from this line and how good they are. Winter Woods is less smoky and intense than Fireside Intense and I think perfect for the autumnal weather and Tabac Aurea, with its amber, tobacco and immortelle notes, is great for those cool days too.

I don't think I've found a dud in the line yet. Incense Pure is my all-time favourite and while I don't love Violet Woods and Sienna Musk, I know they are well received too.

Perhaps the best thing about the house is that they offer the perfumes in a number of different sizes, ranging from samples, to 5ml, 15ml, 30ml and so on (at least they did the last time I looked) which is just fantastic. Chanel with their 200ml bottles of Exclusives could learn a thing or two...

  1. While re-organizing (again) my sample stash, I came across some SSS samples - gotta get to them now! Thanks Michael

    1. Elisa I have a sample of Vintage Rose. I've only had it a short while so haven't tried it much, but will certainly revisit soon.

  4. Not all of SSS's perfumes work for me as day-wear perfumes but I like all scents from the collection (and love some). And I agree that it's a perfect price/quality combination. Also, 5 ml purse sprays are just made for us, perfumistas (as well as 1 ml and 2.5 ml samples).

    1. Undina, I agree that some of them are quite intense, for example Tabac Aurea and Fireside Intense are both quite bold creations, but I like them best on a really cold winter day. And yes, I get the feeling SSS understands the sort of people who buy their products, like a perfume line created by a true perfume lover, rather than some faceless corporation where the bottom line is the only consideration.

  5. SSS is to be praised for its consistency, I agree. And, I love the sizes of packages and think they are great value. Glad you're enjoying them as fall comes around. Their heaviness is more suited to this time of year, isn't it?

    1. Natalie, yes I think you're correct. Of the samples I have or had, Incense Pure was quite versatile and I could wear that anytime, but a lot of the others have heavy tobacco, labdanum, amber or smoky notes that definitely feel more appropriate for cooler weather. Great quality though.

  6. SSS is currently my favorite company! I can't get enough Tabac Aurea, Lieu au Reves, Nostalgie, Champagne du Bois, and Jour Ensolielle (scent of the summer). It is great that she offers so many sizes, it makes it easy to collect...or is that enabling...? I am anxious to try Winter Woods, and Fireside Intense.

    1. Annina, it does make sampling the line a lot easier, or more accessible at any rate. Winter Woods and Fireside Intense are both very good.

  7. Count me in as another huge fan of Laurie; Sonoma Scent Studio is quite simply my favorite indie line. Not everything she does works on my skin - her lighter florals, Tabac Aurea - but when they do..... wow. I own three(IP, WWW, and her marvellous discontinued Femme Jolie) with plans to own at least four more.

    1. Dionne, glad that you like so many! I think the first I would buy is Incense Pure, it is a gorgeous incense fragrance. I haven't tried Femme Jolie. Thanks for commenting.

  8. I am probably the biggest SSS fan...I believe I have sampled all except for Fireside Intense. Laurie has a new Natural line and the first release- Cocoa Sandalwood, is outstanding. Sits close to the skin and, in my opinion, could be worn year round.
